Map & Directions

Road Directions

We’re on the B5307 between Carlisle and Kirkbride, five miles West of the ancient pre-Roman city of Carlisle, just a mile South of the Solway Firth.  The Firth is the Western border between England and Scotland and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

If coming by car,

Put the post code, CA5 6HB, in the satnav, of course ...but we share our postcode with the neighbouring farm!  So, keep going for a few yards past the village sign for Thurstonfield till you see our sign, on the left coming from Carlisle.

From the South or North, it’s easiest to leave the M6 at Junction 44 and take A689 towards Workington. At the seventh roundabout, Moorhouse Roundabout, take B5307 towards Kirkbride.

Follow the B5307 for about three miles; you will pass through Moorhouse Village.  About ½ mile after Moorhouse you will see a large barn on your right next to a sign for Bramblebeck Farm, a little further you’ll see a sign for Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre & Bramblebeck Park on the left and the road curves to the right in a dip. The “Thurstonfield” village sign is just after this bend – indicate left as you pass it.

Take the first driveway on the left about 120 metres after the village sign, discreetly signed “The Tranquil Otter”, with white stones on either side. It’s about 50 metres before the 30-mph speed limit sign going into Thurstonfield village.

Go straight up the lane; don’t take the right turn note that there are two speed bumps before you get to a gate, usually open, and then the notice board on your right.  Follow the 90-degree left bend in the lane and the lodges are on the right along the next 200 metres, beginning with Alder Lodge and ending with Heron.

Look for the low-level sign for your lodge where there is parking for one car.  If you have more than one car, there is space in the car park at the end of the lane before the bridge.  If you reach the bridge, you have gone too far!

Public Transport Directions
