Beechenhurst lies in the heart of the Forest of Dean, one of Britain's oldest and largest woodlands, and is the perfect place for a family day out.  

Take a stroll on one of our many walking trails, including the Glade trail – an all-ability access trail specially designed for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Beechenhurst is the home of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail - look out for our unique collection of artworks hidden among the trees. There is also a family activity trail which changes annually. This year it is the Stick Man trail – join Stick Man on his adventure back to the family tree!

Beechenhurst is the home of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail - look out for our unique collection of artworks hidden among the trees. There is also a family activity trail which changes annually. Visitors with limited mobility can hire our all-terrain mobility scooter to help them get around. It is safe and easy to use, and can tackle a range of trails come rain or shine. You don’t have to be registered disabled to hire one. There is also a Changing Places toilet facility and blue badge parking available. 

Bring your bikes and visit the wider forest using the Colliers Trail - our family-friendly cycling route which takes you on a loop around the forest, taking in many popular picnic sites and beauty spots. 

Our large, enclosed play area at Beechenhurst has a host of wooden play equipment for your kids to enjoy. Features include a zip line, nest swing, boardwalk and climbing tower. If you’re looking for more adventure, check out our Go Ape high ropes course.  

Don't forget to refuel in our cafe which serves freshly made food and barista-style drinks. We also have a large picnic area if you fancy bringing your own food, and a gas barbecue available to hire.

Road Directions

Follow tourist signs for the Forest of Dean. Take the B4226 Coleford to Cinderford road. Beechenhurst is located between the B4234 crossroads (Parkend/Lydbrook) and the Speech House Hotel.   

Public Transport Directions

  • The Robin Bus is your local, friendly bookable bus service. From Gloucestershire County Council, this bus service improves connections between rural areas which often have infrequent or no fixed routes available. Beechenhurst is part of the Forest of Dean South area. For more information, check out the website. Available 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Saturday.  

  • From Coleford - the Stagecoach number 24 bus stops a short walk away from the entrance to Beechenhurst.

Beechenhurst is often quieter on weekdays (outside of school holidays), earlier in the morning, and later in the afternoon.
