Discover Coppergate
At JORVIK Viking Centre, you are standing on the site which revealed some of the most astounding discoveries in modern archaeology. Your first experience at JORVIK is an exploration of the Coppergate Dig, with a fully immersive display taking you back to the 1970s.
Explore the Viking-Age City
Travel around 10th century York, experiencing what it was like living in the city. The sights, sounds and even the smells of the Viking Age are brought vividly back to life as you journey back 1,000 years.

Get up-close with some of the most beautiful and rare Viking artefacts in the world, from delicate earrings and socks to frying pans and padlocks and even a fossilised Viking poo! Accessibility
At JORVIK Viking Centre we welcome any visitors with additional needs and want to make sure that we deliver an enjoyable environment for everyone. We are proud to have won the 2020 Visit York Award for Accessible and Inclusive Tourism.
There is step-free access to the entrance and throughout the building. There is a lift between floors and an accessible toilet. Staff have disability awareness and Autism Awareness training whilst some staff have BSL training.
Glass doors have contrast markings. We have interpretation available in level 1 Braille translation and in large print. Some parts of the building have low lighting, though you can borrow a handheld lamp.
Visual stories are available to download on our website and we have paper copies at our front desk.
We have a hearing loop on all our ride capsules and at our “pod” area.
We have a complimentary ticket policy for carers and personal assistants, and all tickets are valid for one year, allowing as many returns and re-entries as you like.
Seating is available throughout the building, and we have sensory packs for you to use at our front desk.

The Herefordshire Hoard
The Herefordshire Hoard is currently on display at JORVIK Viking Centre!
Loaned to York Archaeology from Herefordshire Council, the Hoard is well known for being discovered in 2015 by metal detectorists near Leominster. It is believed that 90% of the hoard has been illicitly sold on the black market, with the perpetrators since sentenced to over 23 years in prison.
The Herefordshire Hoard currently consists of 29 silver coins, unique gold jewellery, a remarkably well-preserved rock crystal pendant and a single silver ingot
This incredible hoard will be available to view at JORVIK Viking Centre until Summer 2024.

Due to our safety regulations, we can only allow accessible tickets at certain intervals, as a result, these tickets must be pre-booked.

By Bus
Several bus services connect through York, making stops in the city centre. Visit the iTravelYork website for more information.
By Train
York is on the East Coast main line between London and Scotland. It takes less than two hours to get to York from London. Trains run every half an hour, with at least 25 direct trains each week day.
Direct rail services also run to York from many of the UK’s main regional centres. York can be reached easily from all the following stations: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Liverpool.
There are direct trains to and from Manchester International Airport and trains run every hour during the day.
