Discover Poole’s Cavern, Buxton’s Hidden Wonder.
From the cavern tour to the visitor centre and café, we’ve designed our facilities and tours to be inclusive and accommodating. Wheelchair users can explore the main cavern chamber, which is 100 metres/300ft long, with no steps. The remaining path includes 28 steps (14 up, 14 down) leading to the final chamber, which is 300 metres/1000ft from the entrance. Staff are trained to provide assistance – please notify us in advance if you have any additional requirements.
For visitors with additional sensory or mobility needs, we run SEN Guided Tours on the first Saturday of every month at 9:30am. These tours are designed to be more accessible and sensitive to individual needs.

What to expect on SEN Tours:
- Maximum lighting: No “blackout” or UV effects used during the tour
- Interactive features: Opportunities to handle fossils, replica tools, and calcite formations
- Small groups: Limited to 12 participants for a calm, comfortable experience
- Quiet hour: From 9:30am–10:30am, the Café and Visitor Centre will maintain a hushed atmosphere with no background music
- Carer support: Each standard entry includes one free carer ticket.
- Service dogs are welcome, but this tour is otherwise not dog-friendly
We are open 7 days a week. Please book your tours on-line, as walk-ups CANNOT be guaranteed.

There are no more than 28 steps and less than 10 steps at any one time.
The cave is a cool 7 degrees Celsius, so don’t forget your coat.
The cave is lit with an LED light display and the tour involves a blackout, so customers can experience complete darkness.
We are now a dog friendly attraction. All Standard Guided Tours are dog friendly. All well-behaved dogs must be on a short lead. Full T&Cs on our website. Please note dogs may not be allowed on special events.

Read LessPoole's Cavern is a 20 minute uphill walk from Buxton Railway Station and Bus Station. From the Crescent and Tourist Information Centre follow Broad Walk and Temple Road to Green Lane and The Cavern. By road follow the brown tourist signs from A6, A515 or A53 to Green Lane. Pay and display car park for 80 vehicles priced at £2.00 for 4 hours, or £3.00 all day. Level access to visitor centre. There is no public transport bus route direct to Poole's Cavern. The nearest railway station is Buxton, which is 1 mile away.
