Symonds Yat Rock sits high up in the Forest of Dean and overlooks the beautiful Wye Valley. The iconic viewpoint offers panoramic views of the river below, snaking its way through the countryside.
Symonds Yat Rock is the site of an ancient Iron Age hill fort thought to have been built around 2500 years ago. Today visitors can enjoy an array of waymarked walking trails, varying in length and difficulty. An all-ability access path, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs takes you through the remains of the hill fort and up to the viewpoint. There is also a wellbeing trail, with specially designed signs inviting you to pause and reflect on the natural surroundings.
All-terrain mobility scooters can be hired from nearby Forest Holidays. These are easy to use and can tackle a range of surfaces and gradients come rain or shine. You do not have to be registered disabled to hire one. Maps of suitable routes will be provided when hiring to help you find your way around the forest.
Visitors can refuel in the on-site café, a log cabin style building dating back to the 1950s. The café offers a range of freshly prepared food and drinks, including handmade cakes, pastries and a full range of signature house blend coffees.
Symonds Yat Rock is one of the best places in the country to watch Peregrine Falcons. In the spring the nearby cliffs are home to breeding peregrines, whilst other times of year you can spot goshawks, sparrowhawks and ospreys. Make sure you bring your binoculars!
