The Vyne is a warm red-bricked Tudor mansion built in the 16th century for Lord Sandys, Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain, which later passed into the hands of the Chute family, who cared for the house and estate for over 300 years. Stroll through rooms once enjoyed by notable guests like Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Horace Walpole, and Jane Austen.
The house is set in 13 acres of beautiful, relaxing gardens. Styles range from the formal summerhouse and stone gallery gardens with fine herbaceous borders, to the more natural wild garden and fruit trees of the orchard and walled garden. Nestled in the Hampshire countryside, The Vyne Estate also features acres of woodland with trails that pass by ancient trees, a medieval fishpond and the park pale. The wetlands attract an abundance of bird life. The rolling parkland grazed by cattle perfects the lakeside setting.
Accessibility
We have an accessible route through the gardens with hard gravel pathways. We also have limited indoor and outdoor wheelchairs available to reserve for the day. Please call 01256 883858.
There are accessible toilets in both blocks along with limited designated parking and a drop-off point on the south drive in front of the house.
Benches and seating are available at various points in the garden and we have a movable ramp for the entrance of the house. However, access to first floor in the house is via a staircase only and this has no handrail. In the woods, the paths have tree roots coming across them in places and can get very muddy.
Dogs on leads are welcome everywhere outside except the children's play area. Dogs are also welcome in the downstairs area of the Brewhouse tearoom. However, only assistance dogs are allowed into the house, the servery area, first floor of the tearoom and children's play area.
