Barclaycard’s British Summer Time Festival, which is held every summer in London’s Hyde Park has been awarded Gold Status for Attitude is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice in recognition of the event’s long-term and continued commitment to inclusivity and access for deaf and disabled people.
The event also won both Customer Service and Ticketing Without Barriers awards at this year’s Outstanding Attitude Awards.
Attitude is Everything is a charity that is working to improve the access to live music for deaf and disabled people and teamed up with the team behind BST Hyde Park a number of years ago. Their Charter of Best Practice goes beyond the legal obligations set out in the UK’s Equality Act to set out a framework to provide a truly equal service for deaf and disabled customers.
The initiatives put into place to commit to these practice include three accessible viewing areas over two stages and roaming drink vendors at various spots during the festival, these services can also be enjoyed with a friend or family member with the use of an interchangeable, free Personal Assistant Pass.
Visitors to the festival will also find BSL interpreters for all acts performing on the Great Oak Stage, accessible toilets at every toilet block, Hearing Induction Looks, free Personal Assistant tickets for all ticket types and a dedicated access hub and entrance. Before the event, all information is available in audio and easy read versions as well as a customer service team who are available by phone and email all year around.
