If you were thinking of spending summer by the beach, look no further than heading to Swansea in Wales, one of their most popular beaches is to become even more welcoming of guests with limited mobility.

Caswell Beach is getting a number of new facilities which aims to give more people access to the natural attractions in the area. The new Changing Places facility will be the first of its kind on the Gower Coast. They are designed specifically for visitors with profound physical or learning disabilities as well as limited mobility.
The innovate additions are thanks to Swansea Council who are already on a high following the news that a number of the town’s beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status.

Speaking to reporters, Robert Francis-Davies, the council member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “The forthcoming improvements to Caswell Bay will be very welcome indeed, especially to those with a disability. The self-contained Changing Places unit is fitted with a ceiling hoist, changing bench shower and toilet to enable changing and washing in a clean and safe environment. Floating wheelchairs will also be available to allow disabled visitors access to the water.
“The Council has a long-standing commitment to introducing Changing Places facilities and this joint effort is a great example of partnership working between various council teams and Caswell businesses to add a major new asset to the community. It’s already one of our most accessible beaches, great for families and surfing. Gower’s beaches are vitally important to our visitor economy, they’re one of the main reasons why people come here. Annual investment helps ensure locals and visitors can enjoy clean, safe and beautiful beaches all year round and we are delighted to continue flying these Blue Flags.”

The council is working with Surfability UK and local tourism businesses to deliver this project.
