New gates make Northam Burrows more accessible.

Visitors to Northam Burrows can expect to find a more accessible route around the site this summer thanks to Torridge Council. Three new accessible gates have been installed providing a new accessible access point from the Burrows to the coastal path leading to Cornborough Cliffs where you can enjoy incredible views across Bideford, Clovelly and Hartland.

The gates were planned following a consultation with members of the Disabled Ramblers Group, to make sure that they are suitable for a wide range of users, including those using wheelchairs and motorised scooters. Gates to improve accessibility to the village of Westward Ho! have also been installed.

The gates are part of a wider initiative to improve the accessibility of the burrows and include improving disabled access tracks linking the car park and the visitor centre. Funded by the North Devon Coast AONB’s Access for All programme, the project included a complete replacement of the track and a refurbishment of the visitor centre, which now features full accessible changing rooms and toilets.
