Fairytale Farm proudly announces the return of its much-loved Illuminated Evenings, set to light up the Cotswolds every Saturday and Sunday from 5th October to 17th November 2024.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of Oxfordshire’s longest-running light show, a milestone that highlights Fairytale Farm as a true pioneer of illuminated trails in the county and beyond.

Nick Laister, owner of Fairytale Farm, recalls the early days of the event: "When we opened Fairytale Farm in 2013, illuminated displays were not widely seen in our area. While iconic displays like the Blackpool Illuminations were famous, there was nothing comparable in Oxfordshire or the surrounding regions. The concept to create our own light display here came from the legendary Richard Ryan, who managed the Blackpool Illuminations for decades. With Richard’s support, we embarked on an exciting journey to bring a magical illuminated experience to the region."

The origins of Fairytale Farm’s light display can be traced back to 2011, when Nick visited Blackpool to begin planning the project. Several light features from the historic Blackpool Illuminations were donated to Fairytale Farm, transported in 2012, and lovingly restored. In September 2013, Fairytale Farm switched on its lights for the first time, marking the birth of what is now an annual tradition and the region’s longest-running light trail.

Richard Ryan, whose expertise has shaped the event from its inception, reflects on its ongoing development: "It’s been a privilege to be part of this journey. Nick’s dedication to enhancing the display each year ensures that Fairytale Farm’s Illuminated Evenings remain fresh, innovative, and more enchanting every season. Our focus has always been on sustainability, and every feature we introduce is designed with energy efficiency in mind."

All lighting used in the display is high-efficiency LED, combining stunning visuals with environmental responsibility. Visitors can look forward to a dazzling array of lights as dusk falls, including the Enchanted Walk, Mermaid Garden, Fairy Dell, Dino Valley, and Jack’s Yard, all beautifully illuminated. This year, several exciting new features are being introduced, including the first-time illumination of the magical Fairy Dell and an extension of lights into the animal area.

Lights that can be seen in 2024 include:

  • New illuminations in Dino Valley
  • The whimsical Giant’s Camera
  • The Extinct Band installation
  • Giant Party Poppers
  • Mesmerizing Light Fountains
  • A magical Tunnel of Light
  • Dancing Water Fountains with an integrated light show
  • Iconic attractions like Snow White’s Castle and Jack’s Beanstalk aglow in vibrant colours

Fairytale Farm will remain open until one hour after dusk every weekend, with extended hours during the October half-term. Daytime visitors will also get the chance to experience the illuminations at no extra cost. For those who don't visit in the day, there is a reduced admission price available from 3pm onwards. The Beanstalk Café will offer a variety of hot and cold refreshments, providing a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

For a truly magical experience, guests can take advantage of the Illuminations + Supper Deal, available every weekend and throughout the half-term. For just £14.99 per adultand £13.99 per child (16 and under), visitors can enjoy 3pm entry to the farm, a delicious hot supper at the Beanstalk Café, and an enchanting stroll through the illuminated gardens.

Nick Laister adds: "We are incredibly excited to welcome visitors to our 12th Illuminated Evenings event. This year’s new features will add a touch of magic to an already unforgettable experience. We invite families, friends, and visitors of all ages to join us for what promises to be our most spectacular event yet."
