Families are in store for some roar-cus science fun this May half term at Winchester Science Centre. Between Friday, 23rd May and Monday, 2nd June, there’ll be all the usual Science Centre fun, plus even more to excite children aged five to twelve and their families. Mini palaeontologists are invited to join a dino dig and handle real and replica fossils, Trixie the baby Triceratops and her friend Patrick the Parasaurolophus will be meeting new friends and posing for some prehistoric selfies, and the science Inspirers will be using dino-mite demos and experiments to explore what Earth was like when dinosaurs roamed in live science show, The Dino Show! Plus, there’ll be space adventures in the Planetarium, huge ‘don’t try this at home’ demos in Science Live and two floors of hands-on exhibits not to be missed.

Families are invited to join in with all the Brontosaurus-sized fun at the Science Centre this half term. In the Discovery Zone, dinosaur fans can join the excavation team by grabbing a brush and starting to dig to find signs of dinosaurs. There’ll also be a real fossil handling collection to discover where visitors can hold real and replica fossils to explore what these amazing creatures might have been like millions of years ago.

Over in the Science Theatre audiences will set off on a prehistoric time travel adventure in The Dino Show, an action-packed family-friendly 20-minute live show. Through roar-cus demos and t-riffic experiments, the science Inspirers will explore what the Earth was like when dinosaurs roamed. There’ll be using fire, magical colour changing dry ice and the epic big bang of the hydrogen balloon to bring to life the environment that our prehistoric friends lived in. The Dino Show runs throughout the school holiday between 10:30am and 3:30pm. The 3:30pm show is a not-so-noisy show, perfect for those who are sensitive to loud noises. On Tuesday, 27th May a British Sign Language interpreter will be signing in the 11:30am and 2:30pm shows.

Over in the Planetarium, space explorers can zoom through space and explore the solar system in the live presenter-led show, Solar System Stars. Families will learn more about the planets and the constellations they share the sky with. And in subtitled film show, Astronaut, fun and colourful character Chad, a test astronaut, will take families on a journey to see what it takes to become a space pilot.*

And don’t forget all the other hands-on fun on offer! Families can discover more about sound, hearing and vibration on the upper floor. Climb inside a giant guitar. Explore the acoustic rocket. And even learn some British Sign Language. On the lower floor visitors can blast off on a journey through Explorer:Space. Discover more about what it’s like to live and work in space in the interactive space zone. Plus there’ll be plenty of opportunities to be wowed by the huge ‘don’t try this at home’ demos taking place in Science Live throughout the day, right on the exhibition floor.
